Prime Minister, David Cameron, and Business Secretary, Sajid Javid, led the first Northern Powerhouse trade mission to Singapore and Malaysia at the end of last month.
The Prime Minister and Business Secretary, Sajid Javid, led the first Northern Powerhouse trade mission, taking 62 northern companies to Singapore and Malaysia, underlining the government’s commitment to the creation of a Northern Powerhouse. The UK’s northern regions are home to some of the most innovative companies in the world (www.gov.uk).
Geoquip Worldwide is proud to have been represented by its Export Business Manager, Tony Sinden, at the Trade Mission. Along with 61 other companies from the North of England, Geoquip explored the business opportunities in the exciting and dynamic markets of South East Asia. In recognition of the clear messages given by the Prime Minister that Britain must look east to develop trade, not just to India and China but to the largely untapped potential of South East Asia, Geoquip’s visit to the region marked the first step towards developing further business relations in the territory. By 2030, the region is expected to be the fourth-largest single market in the world (www.bbc.co.uk).
Tony Sinden met with Sajid Javid regarding several high profile projects that Geoquip is trying to secure in the region and has also set up further meetings with local ministers later this year to further discuss and develop these projects. Visits to the UK by trade delegations from Malaysia and Singapore are expected in the coming months to continue the efforts started by last month’s trade mission. Tony can be seen here pictured with the Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP.
The Prime Minister, David Cameron said of the trade mission, “This is the first time we have assembled a delegation specifically comprised of businesses from the North of England… I am delighted to be promoting the skills, services and products of Northern businesses to Singapore and Malaysia”…. “As a government we are determined to do everything possible to make Britain one of the best countries in the world for inward investment and trade”.
Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Sajid Javid said, “I am delighted to lead the very first Northern Powerhouse trade and investment mission, designed to showcase the distinct products, services and assets of the North of England to Singapore and Malaysia…..Both [..] are hugely significant trading partners for the UK”.
